Joe Perdue BMI Bursaries

 The CSCM National Board has established a program to provide financial support for those CSCM members wishing to register for BMI courses as part of their professional development requirements to earn the CCM designation.

Subject to the funding parameters established by the Board below, the CSCM will annually grant bursaries to those CSCM members registered in the CSCM Certification Program to cover the cost of registration for BMI courses.  Eligible BMI courses include:

BMI Club Management (formerly BMI I)
BMI Leadership Principles (formerly BMI II)
BMI General Manager/Chief Operating Officer (formerly BMI III)
BMI Review Course (prior to the CCM exam)

Funding for the bursaries comes from the Professional Manager Development Fund.  The amount available each year for bursaries is determined by the Board.

Criteria

Bursaries shall be granted based on the following criteria:

  • Applications must be complete and include all supporting documentation required under this policy
  • Weight may be given to applicants who have not received prior funding support from CSCM
  • Where and when possible, a balance between regions of the CSCM shall be considered in the granting of bursaries
  • Weight may be given to applicants of clubs with smaller operating budgets and revenue generation
  • Priority will be given to Active members of CSCM
  • Consideration will be given to involvement and contribution to the Society as a volunteer

Two rounds of applications are accepted annually:

March 1 and September 1

All applications for Joe Perdue BMI Bursaries must be submitted to the Professional Manager Development Fund Committee through the CSCM National Office and shall contain the following information: 

  • Cover letter outlining the request and the reasons as to why CSCM should grant the applicant the bursary
  • Letter of support from the Club where the applicant is employed (from the President, Executive Committee, owner, etc.)
  • Summary of activities, merits, accomplishments relevant to and supportive of the application
  • Confirmation of registration in the BMI course the applicant wishes to attend, or an official receipt for the attended course within the previous six months
  • Club financial commitment budgeted for professional development for its key employees as well as gross revenue projections for the current year and the previous year’s actuals

Notification and Payment

National Office will notify all applicants of the Board’s decision immediately following the meeting at which that decision is made.

Payment of the bursary shall be made upon the submission of confirmation from CMAA or CSCM of the successful completion of the course for which the funds were applied. 

Please note: Applicants will be asked whether their respective Clubs paid for the registration or they paid personally.  If the Club paid, the bursary cheque will be issued payable to the Club. If the individual manager paid, CSCM will be issuing a T4A form for that manager for income tax purposes.
