BMI Leadership Principles

CSCM is pleased to offer Business Management Institute Leadership Principles (formerly BMI II)  in partnership with the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Ryerson University

January 28-February 2, 2017

The course has been organized with the assistance of the CMAA and is recognized by CMAA towards qualification for the Certified Club Manager (CCM) designation.

30 National Education Credits
One of the required core BMI courses for the CCM Designation

This intensive five day course is designed for managers seeking the opportunity to develop their leadership, management and critical thinking skills. it consists of 90 minute education sessions, two club visits and a case study. Successful completion of the course and awarding of credits is depending upon passing a multiple choice exam and case study.

Lumina Leader

A key component of this BMI is Lumina Leader!  This program supports the development of leadership qualities by providing a tailored assessment and development program for course participants. It is based on tailored leadership competencies that suit your club environment. The Lumina Leadership portrait includes some pre-course work which will be used to produce your own personal assessment that will be provided to you at the course to be used during the workshops.  You will then have another very valuable take-away that will help enhance your leadership skills back at the club - a great "value-add" for course participants!   Download Lumina Leader Fact Sheet (PDF)

Education Content

We are confirming the final presentations for the program but you may download a draft here.  Please note that the exam is in two parts: 1) multiple choice and 2) case study (covered in the course).  The entire program will wrap up on Thursday February 2 by 5:30 p.m.

Download Draft Program Schedule as at December 2016. (PDF)

Most of the faculty comes from the Ted Rogers School.  However we are welcoming back George Pinches for the presentation of the governance sessions and for the first time, Trevor Coughlan, Director of Marketing for Jonas Club Software, a CSCM Silver Corporate Partner, for the session on technology.

 Hotel Reservations

A great deal!  Accommodation has been arranged at the Chelsea Hotel Toronto, just a short walk to the School in the heart of downtown Toronto at the low rate of $145 per night for a deluxe room with turn-down service and including internet access.

Call the Reservation Department at 1-800-CHELSEA (243-5732) or (416) 595-1975 and indicate you are with the Canadian Society of Club  Managers BMI Course.  Or use this special link set up for CSCM to book online.  Deadline for making reservations is January 5, 2017.   All reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card.  Check-in is 3:00 p.m., check-out is 11:00 a.m.

Course participants are strongly encouraged to book into the Hotel for the duration of the course for several reasons:

  • avoid early morning stressful Toronto traffic
  • you can focus on the course and the studying you need to do without outside interruptions and distractions
  • you have the opportunity to network with fellow participants - one of the benefits of the course - and study with them especially for the exam.

Ask any member who has participated in a BMI course and they will verify this.  Those who took the last BMI  in Toronto and did not stay at the Hotel regretted it. You need the time in the evening to meet with fellow course participants, work on case study exercises and study without the stress of commuting or other distractions!
