Why You and Your Chief Elected Officer Should Attend

The relationship between you as the general manager/chief operating officer and your club's president has a significant impact on the performance of your club's board and the club generally, and how the club and that board is perceived particularly by the members and potential members. An understanding of best practices in governance and a relationship of trust, respect and understanding between the elected and operational leaders of the Club are critical to your success.

The 2017 workshop will build on the success of the workshop held in Toronto in March 2016 and the feedback from the participants. This year we are pleased to have Henry Delozier, Partner, Global Golf Advisors, as our workshop leader. Henry is well known in the international club community for his work as consultant, strategic advisor, marketer, advocate of customer service and new concepts, and his understanding of what success means in the club world. He has done many presentations at the CMAA World Conferences

This is an opportunity for both partners to…

  • enhance their understanding of non-profit governance particularly in the world of private clubs;
  • build the relationship between you and your chief elected officer through a series of exercises the two of you work on together;
  • identify your unique leadership styles identifying where there are synergies and where there are potential conflicts;
  • build your understanding of each other’s roles, working together to clearly establish who is responsible for what; and
  • understand how you and your partner can work together to provide leadership in creating the vision for the club and develop the strategies necessary for success in achieving that vision.

This workshop is an opportunity to have focused, quality time away from the club with your leadership partner as well as the opportunity to network with those from other clubs, sharing experiences, challenges and solutions.

CSCM thanks Global Golf Advisors for its support of this workshop.

"I had the pleasure of attending a two day CSAE workshop Symposium developed for Chief Officers and Chief Elected Officers in my role as incoming President of CSCM. This session was developed to help clarify and strengthen the unique role between Senior Staff and Board Chair’s and ensure that everyone is on the same page with the goals and vision for their organizations. Last year CSCM piloted a similar workshop in Toronto which I also attended.

Through interactive sessions, the workshop provides a great deal of information, knowledge, and "take-aways" which assist greatly in our understanding of each other's roles.
The Leadership skills learned help emphasized the importance of working together on the same common goals as way to achieve success. I have used the lessons learned both in my role as COO/GM of The National Club and on volunteer Boards that I have served on and strongly recommend this program for CSCM members and their club leadership partners."  Bill Morari, General Manager/COO, The National Club, Past President of CSCM
